The Curtis Opera Theatre’s 2023–24 season concludes with Janáček’s masterpiece, The Cunning Little Vixen, one of the most powerful operatic works of the 20th century. Led by a plucky heroine, this poetic parable celebrates the cyclical nature of life and death as it spins a comical yet bittersweet tale of Vixen Sharp Ears. Captured by a Forester, the mischievous young fox cub grows up to become a strong, independent vixen, escaping into the wild, where she encounters a forest full of possibilities. Janáček’s adaptation of the beloved Czech novella features a lushly orchestrated, folk-infused score bursting with boundless energy and an imaginative array of dazzling colors.

Featuring Rollo Dilworth's "Credo," Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate's "Oks' Aya'sha' (The Water Place)" and jazz vocalist and composer Ruth Naomi Floyd will present selections from "The Frances Suite," based on the life and poetry of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. Special guests will include singers from Commonwealth Youth Choir.

Figaro, the titular barber of Seville, brings audiences along on his amusing adventure to outwit Doctor Bartolo from marrying the young and beautiful Rosina. Count Almaviva, who has come to Figaro for help, is truly in love with her, while Bartolo is only interested in her money. A battle of the wits ensues with many disguises and tricks, and in the end, both the Count and the Doctor get exactly what they want. Gioachino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is a timeless classic, with catchy tunes and endless laughs that will leave you humming and giggling long after the curtains close.
