Eastern State Penitentiary

Opened in 1829 as part of a controversial movement to change the behavior of inmates through “confinement in solitude with labor,” Eastern State Penitentiary quickly became one of the most expensive and most copied buildings in the young United States. Some of America’s most notorious criminals were held in the Penitentiary including bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone. Click here to learn more.

Available Experiences:

Self-Guided Tour: $3 per person, includes "The Voices of Eastern State" Audio Tour.

An ASL-interpreted tour is offered the last Sunday of every month, in partnership with Hands Up Productions.

Note: The Art-Reach discount is not available for Halloween Nights, Night Tours or other special events.
